Dear Irvington,

To my understanding, violence has been at an all time high for the past decade. My research reveals that majority of the violence that takes place streams from individuals between the ages of 15-25.  Unfortunately, my research does not reveal the reasoning behind such turbulence.  It perplexes me as to why one of the smallest towns in the state of New Jersey could carry one of the worst reputations in the entire country.

As a fellow Irvington resident myself, I am not at all appalled by the reputation that Irvington has carried thus far.  I am however, scared for the future.  Every time  I think that violence related issues will pass, they only seem to get worse.  Just this past weekend, 2 young men were shot and killed in a matter of 48 hours.  Granted, I do not fully know the situation of either killing. –But what I do know is that NOBODY deserves to die.  Like rapper Biggie Smalls once said, there is no coming back from death.  Again, the killing in Irvington needs to cease once in for all!!!

Snap Worthy Solutions:

-Tighter Police Force-2 snaps!

-More Neighborhood Watches-3 snaps!

-More recreational facilities (i.e. skating rinks, bowling alleys, movie theaters)-4 snaps!

-More late night “Street Sweeps”-5 Snaps!

-Extended advocacy and mentorship programs for adolescents-6 Snaps!

-More peace rallys, community service opportunities, etc.-7 Snaps!

In closing, residents of Irvington have become fed up with the amount of violence that has been the core issue of destruction in this town.  Something needs to be done and it needs to be done ASAP!  The clock is ticking….
