Rouge, matte, and record breaking decribe Megastar, Rihanna’s, new RiRi Woo Lipstick from MAC Cosmetics. I will say, I’m a die hard fan of MAC’S Ruby Woo, but this little lipstick sang a slightly different song. It’s a really deep ruby red that’s not so dark that it looks like grandma’s expired burgundy, but not as bright as Ronald McDonald’s hair. The color works well on all skin tones, but I would suggest a similary colored lip liner so it doesn’t bleed pass your lip lines. And, for the texture? If you’ve been searching for a matte, RiRi Woo is SUPER matte! Once it’s on, it’s on! The texture is heavy, and won’t budge. I applied early in the evening, and the color lasted all night. It took 2 makeup wipes to fully remove it. It’s slightly darker than MAC’s classic Ruby Woo, and I beleive the texture is a little heavier and dry (but not ashy dry). I’ve been a gloss-aholic these days, but RiRi Woo’s got me feeling a little rebellious! Rihanna recently posted on her instagram feed that the lipstick sold out in 3 hours! Yes, sad but true! Supposedly, there will be restocking online this coming June. MAC RiRi Woo Lipstick will retail for $16 at maccosmetics.com. Get your coins ready!

Sexy, sassy, and sweet are the three words that come to mind when spritzing Rebelle by Rihanna.  In collaboration with Parlux Fragrances, Inc., Rihanna’s second fragrance is set to be a big hit this spring.  Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Rebelle is an exotic mix of succulent strawberries, vanilla orchid, and amber.

“My new fragrance is about taking control but still being a lady.  There’s a feminine, romantic element to the fragrance-but there’s also a defiant quality in it.  I love its duality.”–Rihanna

Case Study: Rihanna Makes Use of PR &Marketing

Published: Tuesday, February 23, 2010 | Author: | In:Uncategorized

Okay, so I’m going to put this in LAMEST terms.  Public Relations and Marketing encompass  many of the same strategies in effort to add to the success of a brand (i.e. personality, company, product, etc.)  However, there are some major differences in the way both functions are practiced. For example…

Marketers find unique ways to sell a brand to consumers.  The art of marketing  has a lot to do with keeping up with market trends, and researching what is the most popular way to persuade potential consumers to invest in particular brands.  Take Rihanna for instance.  During the time when Rihanna first arrived on the music scene, there where not many other artists out with the same Caribbean flavor she was bringing to the table.  This was the “umph” used to drive sales for her first album.

Contrastively, marketing strategies alone did not push the success of Rihanna.  PR is employed as well.  To keep pushing brand awareness, there was a total 360 that had to done (image revamp).  Her Caribbean flavor alone would not have been enough to continually drive album sales.  However, there was a relationship with her fan base that needed to be established, and well maintained. When the new, raw, and stylishly edgy Rihanna came on to the scene, her fan base grew tremendously.  The PR strategies to expand upon Rihanna’s “edginess” gave her brand a mouth piece which spoke high volumes to the music world.

Granted, this just a BRIEF case study of the methods used in PR and Marketing. A combination of both functions are needed to ultimately push the overall success of  a brand.  As we can see Rihanna has been on the scene for a minute now, and I don’t think she will be leaving any time soon.
